Fixed bed
Fixed bed
A fixed-bed reactor is a chemical reaction apparatus in which solid catalysts are immobilized within the reactor in the form of a bed, while reactants—whether gaseous or liquid—flow through this catalyst bed and undergo chemical reactions. This reactor design is suitable for both continuous and batch operations and is widely used in fields such as petroleum refining, chemical production, and environmental engineering. The advantages of fixed-bed reactors include simple construction, stable operation, and ease of control; however, they also face challenges such as high pressure drop, limited catalyst life, and constraints on heat transfer. To address these challenges, engineers optimize reactor design, catalyst formulations, and operating conditions to enhance reaction efficiency and product quality.
